MARCUS REZAK’S PHUNK YOUR FACE PHISH FORUM AFTER PARTY
There are three vitally important factors for an after show: great music, proximity to the venue, and unique musical collaborations (things you won’t likely see again). The after party for Sunday’s Phish show at The Forum in Inglewood (10/24/21), checks all three boxes.
After John, Mike, Page, and Trey melt your faces for a few hours, you can stroll your spun head down the block to see Marcus Rezak and a few of his super talented friends continue the party with live music till 2:30am. Head over to the Miracle Theater (10 minute walk), and see members of Turkuaz, Frank Zappa’s Band, and Kung Fu join Marcus for a late night musical adventure.
Shira Elias of Turkuaz will be joining Marcus; anyone who has seen Turkuaz knows how this powerful vocalist brings the house down. Also on stage will be legend Ike Willis. He sang and played guitar with Frank Zappa from 1978-1988. Ike IS the voice of Joe, from Zappa’s album Joe’s Garage. Ike played on every studio album, and every tour that Frank played from 1978-1988. You can see where this is headed…it’s an All Star roster ready to phunk your face off all night!!
Rounding out the sound will be powerhouse Adrian Tramontano of Kung Fu on drums, Grammy award winning bassist Pete Griffin (Steve Vai/Zappa plays Zappa/Zakk Wylde), and Eric Blumenfeld (Kinetix) on keys.
There’s no way to write this without mentioning the amazing connection that Marcus has with Phish. His newest EP Truth In Sound, released in 2021, is a psychedelic ear melter shred fest…with Russ Lawton on drums, Ray Paczkowski on keys, and Tony Markellis on Bass. This is the last music that Tony recorded before his passing. Having the rhythm section from TAB, along with Ray, keeps the music tight and super focused, while allowing Marcus to lay down melodic solo after melodic solo on guitar, also while singing some beautiful harmonies. It's like hearing TAB with a totally different approach to the guitar solos. It really is a superb album, and a great last way to honor such an amazing musician in Tony. Hopefully Marcus plays some of these new tunes Sunday!
Last thing. Universe Peoples are opening. On any other night these guys would be headlining. Garrett Morris (Drums) has put together an impressive group of talented jam heads. The shows have serious dance ability to them, and an awesome flow. If you cannot make it to Phish and want to start the party early at Miracle Theater, these boys will provide the heat.
This show will sell out. Save yourself money and buy a ticket early. Last thing….they really didn’t want me to mention this…but don’t be surprised to see some other special guests not listed…shhhhhh….. See you there!
